其正常竿尾梢略下弯，下部稍呈之字形曲折，节间圆柱形；畸型竿下部节间极为短缩并各在其基部肿胀如瓶肚，非常得奇特有趣。它常被人工截顶培植而形成畸形的植株以供盆栽观赏；在地上种植的高大竹丛偶尔也会出现少数畸形竿。
